1. Medical aid rarely covers it. Cover varies by scheme and plan, and many plans fund dentistry only from the day-to-day Medical Savings Account. Implants are often excluded outright, or need pre-authorisation even on richer plans. For routine tooth loss or full-arch work, there is usually no scheme route that covers it, so the cost falls largely on the patient.

2. Dental fees are market-set. The HPCSA regulates dentists and SADA represents them, but fees are not standardised, so the cost of structural work varies clinic to clinic with no ceiling.

3. Private clinics price to the cost of operating here. A single implant commonly runs R20,000 to R40,000, and a full-arch fixed reconstruction can reach R60,000 to R120,000 or more per arch. The clinical work is excellent; the price reflects rent, wages, and regulation in South Africa.
